Director of Research Joseph S. Tracy Joseph S. Tracy is director of research and an executive vice president of the Bank. Previously, he was an associate professor of economics at Columbia University and at Yale University as well as the Olin Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Joe’s broad research interests include housing and mortgage finance, labor economics, and collective bargaining. His current research focuses on the determinants of early default on subprime mortgages and the impact of falling house prices on household mobility. Joe has published in numerous economic and business journals, including the American Economic Review and the Journal of Political Economy, as well as in scholarly volumes. His most recent work includes “Juvenile Delinquent Mortgages: Bad Credit or Bad Economy?” with Andrew Haughwout and Richard Peach (Journal of Urban Economics, September 2008), “Modeling Uncertainty: Predictive Accuracy as a Proxy for Predictive Confidence,” with Robert Rich (Review of Economics and Statistics, forthcoming), and “Using Home Maintenance and Repairs to Smooth Variable Earnings,” with Joseph Gyourko (Review of Economics and Statistics, forthcoming). Joe holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago. |
