NEW YORK - The Federal Reserve Bank of New York today announced the publication of a new 16-page booklet titled, "Understanding the Federal Budget."
The booklet provides an overview of basic economic concepts related to the budget of the federal government and is intended for the general public, especially students in high school and introductory college-level economics courses. It discusses the sources of the governments revenues, the nature of the governments major expenditure items, and issues related to government debt and surplus or deficit.
The booklet suggests questions for classroom discussion and provides references to additional budget-related information and activities on the Internet.
