Why the Fed?
While the compensation and benefits here are outstanding, I chose to work at the New York Fed because it presented a unique opportunity to work for an organization that has tremendous impact on our economy. I also wanted to be able to put my experience in the private sector to use in establishing a new Human Resources Business Partner function. It was an offer I couldn't refuse!
My role is an HR business partner. I provide strategic and tactical HR consulting services to the Financial Services Group, as well as the East Rutherford Operations Center (EROC), the Special Investment Management Group and the Bank Supervision Group. I assist my clients in driving their strategy by making the best and most effective use of their people resources. Additionally, I work very closely with the HR specialty functions to better promote and facilitate HR services and initiatives.
Challenges and Rewards of My Job
Being an HR business partner can be challenging because you are consistently juggling a variety of tasks and projects while attempting to maintain regular contact with your clients and HR colleagues. Additionally, you can always expect the unexpected. Time management and organization play a key role in making it all work together successfully. The rewards far outweigh the challenges and are endless: learning new businesses, developing strong relationships across the organization, helping your clients meet their goals, working closely with a variety of skilled HR professionals and helping to create and maintain an outstanding work environment.
How Is the Fed Unique?
The Fed is unique because of its outstanding culture and commitment to employees. I find the New York Fed employees to be a diverse, bright group of individuals who collaborate well together and are extremely helpful. I think working at the New York Fed demonstrates that you can have it all in a job: challenges, rewards, balance, great benefits and compensation, outstanding colleagues and a wonderful work environment.
