Plans for Redesigned Federal Reserve Notes

To All Depository Institutions and Others Concerned in the Second Federal Reserve District:

In a press release, the Federal Reserve Board and the Department of the Treasury's Bureau of Engraving and Printing have announced plans to release the next generation of redesigned $20, $50, and $100 Federal Reserve notes. Circulation of the new notes, which will have improved security features to deter counterfeiting, could begin as early as the fall of 2003, with the introduction of the redesigned $20 note.
